Which Casio can you actually swim in?

A watch marked 50 m is not rated to 50 metres of diving — the number comes from a static pressure test, not from real swimming. Here is what each rating permits in practice, and which of our watches falls where.
What the numbers really mean
The rating is measured in a laboratory, with the watch still, at a constant pressure, in fresh water at room temperature. None of those conditions describe swimming. Moving your arm through water briefly multiplies the pressure on the case, warm water and soap degrade the seals, and salt water is harder on a watch than fresh.
That is why a 50 m watch is a pool watch rather than a sea watch, and why the honest advice for anything below 50 m is to keep it out of water altogether. The gap between the printed number and the real-world limit is deliberate on the manufacturer's side, and it is not generous.
Two rules apply at every rating. Never press the buttons underwater — that is the single most common way a water-resistant watch floods. And rinse with fresh water after the sea, because salt left to dry in the seals is what kills them.
Dive (200 m+)
Genuinely swimmable, including sea swimming and snorkelling. This is as far as the range we stock goes, and it is more than most people need.

Water sports (100 m)
Swimming and surface water sports are fine. This is the practical sweet spot — enough that you never have to think about it, without paying for a dive rating.

Swim (50 m)
Fine for swimming in a pool, and for rain, handwashing and sweat. Avoid diving, and avoid pressing the buttons while the watch is underwater.

Splash resistant (daily use)
Rain and handwashing only. Do not swim in these. A watch marked this way will survive being caught in a downpour; it will not survive a morning in the sea.

Keep it dry. This is not a warning about swimming — it means handwashing and heavy rain are enough to cause a problem.

If you want one watch for the sea
Look for 100 m or better. Below that you will spend the whole swim thinking about it, and the resale value of being careful is not worth the saving. Our full price list shows what each of these costs, or you can browse the whole range.
Seals are a wear item on every watch, not a permanent property. A ten-year-old watch rated 100 m from the factory is not a 100 m watch today unless it has been re-sealed. Bring it in to our shop in Trincomalee if you are unsure.
