Casio Data Bank and calculator watches

The name refers to the memory: the watch stores a list of names paired with phone numbers, which you scroll through with the buttons. It was genuinely useful in the years before mobile phones, and today it is mostly bought for the look — the dense button layout and the extra display line are the whole appeal.

Capacity varies by model and is measured in entries rather than characters. None of them sync with anything; you type entries in on the watch itself, one button press at a time. It is slow. That is not a defect.

The two are often confused. Every calculator model is a Data Bank, but not every Data Bank has a calculator. The calculator versions carry a grid of tiny numbered keys across the lower half of the case — if you can see a keypad, it calculates; if the front is mostly plain with buttons only around the edge, it stores numbers but does not do arithmetic.

Check the individual product page for which you are looking at. The keys on the calculator models are small enough that most people use a fingernail rather than a fingertip, which is worth knowing if that is the feature you are buying it for.

This is the one real caveat with the line. The keypad models have a great many openings in the case front, and the water resistance reflects that — some carry no water resistance rating at all. Check the table above before you buy: where it says Not water resistant, take it literally. Rain and handwashing are enough to cause a problem.
